Weld-In Thermowells
Weld-In thermowells, as the name implies are typically welded directly into the wall of the pipe by means of a full penetration weld. These bullet shaped thermowells are common in high velocity steam applications. Of all the thermowell types they provide the furthest allowable length of immersion into the pipe and the best resistance to high velocity flow conditions. To avoid dissimilar metal welds, these thermowells should be constructed of a material grade matching that of the pipe into which they are being welded.
If desired, wake frequency calculations per ASME/ANSI PTC 19.3TW can be performed on these products using JMS’s free SwiftyCalc software.
